Tile Kiln

The tile ovens were built of stone and brick and consist of three parts: the boiler or pit where the firewood was placed (holm oak, olive wood, rockrose etc); the chamber where the tiles or bricks were baked; and the grill which separates the two previous elements which was built of bricks with gaps between them to ensure the heat was evenly distributed.

The tile ovens were normally located in areas with clay soil and a spring or water channel to provide a reliable source of water.
