Dolmen Joaninha

The village has some thirty slate megaliths which were discovered around 1995 by the Portuguese researcher, Jorge de Oliveira. They were built between 5000 and 4000 BC by the first communities of shepherds, a nomadic people who built smaller but numerous megaliths of both the simple and the corridor type.

The Joaninha dolmen is a corridor dolmen, with a small passageway leading into a near-circular chamber. It is constructed with slate slab sidestones and quartzite to separate the spaces.
